Star Wars Max Rebo Band Instruments Power of the Force, 1998
First Shot Prototypes
In 1998, Kenner released three multi-packs of Max Rebo band member action figures as a Walmart exclusive. All but one set included instruments as accessories. Joh Yowza & Sy Snootles were originally planned to include a guitar and microphone with stand. While these instruments made it as far as first shots, they were never released with the figures.
Fun Fact:
In the mid-2000s, Toymaniacs.com released custom instruments to accompany these lonely action figures. These instruments were so close in design compared the original prototypes, they often get confused as being authentic prototypes. The differences are slight sculpting details and a weathered paint scheme. These retailed for $4.99 a set and they came packaged in a small clamshell case with sticker.
